The Law School Preparatory Program runs from June 22 through July 3, and classes are in session from 1 PM to 4 PM Eastern time Monday-Friday (10 sessions total), with a short break in the middle of each session. Classes are online, conducted via Zoom.
The program is open to students of all ages, but is probably best-suited for graduating high school seniors, and early-career undergraduates. No previous experience with legal instruction or legal concepts is required, though it certainly will not hurt to already have some familiarity.
Students will be introduced to some key concepts in the study of law (e.g. the Socratic Method, sources of legal claims, how to read cases, synthesizing rules, the IRAC/CREACC method) and will exit the program with a clear sense of how legal education works, as well as their own capacity to succeed as a law student.
Students will also receive preparation for their law school application process. This includes:
Students will be responsible for doing course readings each night so that they can come prepared to discuss the material the following day. Students will also be responsible for drafting a legal memo (approximately 3-5 pages) and two other short writing assignments.
After the course is completed, students will be given a credit for one hour of free individual advising--redeemable during the remaining calendar year.
Cost: $300
All course materials (readings, sample personal statements, etc.) will be provided electronically at no cost. Students will need to have a (free) Zoom account to join the classes.
